Ways of Repairing Unsightly Craze Lines?

Posted on 12/7/2020 by Thomas Mahar
Ways of Repairing Unsightly Craze Lines?Craze lines are hairline cracks in the outer enamel of your teeth; though they don't typically escalate to deeper cracks, they can lead to an increased risk of cavities and staining. Craze lines can happen simply as a result of chewing as you age, but can also be induced by: nail biting, chewing hard objects, grinding your teeth, misaligned teeth, and other events that can crack your enamel. Professional whitening and fillings are two methods that can restore your teeth to a smooth and white state.

Professional Whitening

Over time, craze lines can turn yellow or brown, as a result of staining, making them much more noticeable. A lot of people will try to use at home whitening kits to try and clean the stains buried within these cracks. Unfortunately, these whitening kits are not designed to handle things such as craze lines and could inadvertently do additional damage to your teeth. Our office offers a highly professional teeth whitening treatment that will remove those pesky stains and leave your teeth beautifully white, without harming them.

Professional Filling

Craze lines, like other types of tooth cracks, can be cleaned and filled. Filling the hairline crack will protect your enamel from staining and reduce your likelihood of developing cavities. The procedure is painless and quick, so it can be done after your routine cleaning. This solution is not always suitable for every patient or every type of situation.

Veeners and Dental Bonding

Dental veneers and dental bonding are also sometimes used to help restore strength and integrity to a damaged tooth. Depending on the severity of the craze lines, we may recommend one of these options to help protect your teeth. The last thing you want to do is continue to go through life with these microfractures in your tooth's structure.
