How a Healthy Mouth Can Save You Money

Posted on 10/19/2020 by Thomas Mahar
How a Healthy Mouth Can Save You MoneyKeeping up with your oral health provides many benefits, both to your overall health and even your wallet. Nobody likes having to pay for numerous expensive dental procedures in a short period of time, and keeping up with your oral hygiene routine can help minimize how much you spend on dental care. Let's check out some ways good dental health can keep money in your wallet.

Cut Down on Harmful Food & Drink

Part of keeping your mouth in great shape is watching what you put into it. Highly acidic drinks like some coffees, energy drinks and sodas contain high amounts of acid that can wear away the enamel on your teeth and dull your smile. Another highly acidic food to look for is citrus. Cutting our acids is very important for enamel, but another ingredient to watch out for is sugar. I'm sure you're aware that sugar is bad for your teeth, but do you know how? Sugar in your mouth breaks down into acidic compounds that cause enamel to break down as well as cause cavities in your teeth. Cut down on sugar and acidic ingredients to cut down on needing to get cavities filled or teeth cleaned.

Systemic Health Problems

When you think of your dental health, you probably don't realize that it can affect the health of the rest of your body as well. Poor oral hygiene and neglect of regular dental maintenance has been linked to serious health problems like heart disease, high blood pressure that can cause stroke, and even pneumonia. When you're brushing or flossing your teeth, keep in mind that you're not just taking care of your smile - you're taking care of your entire body.

Please give us a call if you have any concerns about dietary recommendations or possible systemic health issues. We want to help!
