Best Snack Foods for Healthy Teeth While on the Go

Posted on 8/24/2020 by Thomas Mahar
Best Snack Foods for Healthy Teeth While on the GoThis is a mobile society. However, we often resort to eating unhealthy foods when we are going from one place to the next. This can wreak havoc on our dental health. For example, that small bag of chips you quickly munch down can end up causing some major problems – namely in the form of cavities. That is why you need to commit to eating healthy. If you want to cut down on decay, you need to make this a priority.

Making Substitutes

One of the best ways to improve your dental health, besides brushing and flossing at least twice a day, is to make some dietary switches. You can start by substituting some not-so-healthy snacks for healthier and more dental-friendly foods. For example, instead of eating that bag of chips, choose celery sticks with unsweetened peanut butter or opt for cheese cubes and a piece of fruit. You might also choose yogurt instead of that small cone of ice cream. Seek out similar but more healthy substitutes to keep your teeth free of decay.

Drink Plenty of Water

Along with eating healthier snacks, you also want to make sure you drink plenty of water. Don't drink colas or sugar-filled juices. Keep the teeth clean by opting for water instead. If you get tired of sipping on plain water, you might switch to an herbal tea. Sweeten the tea with Xylitol (an all-natural sweetener that is known to prevent cavities). For example, drinking green tea is good for the teeth as is consuming a tea, such as chamomile or peppermint, both of which are known to help prevent dry mouth. Peppermint also sweetens the breath and reduces problems with halitosis.

Just make sure you visit our office regularly for dental cleanings and exams. Brush and floss at least twice a day – stay on top of your dental health to preserve your smile. Along with making the above changes, call us today for an appointment for a cleaning and exam. Again, make sure you have your teeth professionally cleaned and checked twice a year to maintain a healthier smile.
