 Many people think that if they brush regularly, floss daily and generally practice good oral hygiene, that it is sufficient. They don't see a need to visit us because they have no problems. Their teeth are white, they have no pain and they see no problems like cracks or chips. This is the mistake many people make. Just because you feel no pain and see no problems does not necessarily mean that all is well with your oral health.You probably visit your physician at least once a year to get a regular checkup to prevent medical problems. You want to be sure that if there are medical issues they will be caught early. But for some reason, you don't think of us the same way. Remember that your dental problems aren't simply related to your teeth. Your gums, tongue, and the inside of your mouth are all part of your oral health. In fact, problems with your oral health can either create medical problems or be indicators of a medical problem. How Often Should I Come to the Dentist?We always recommend that you visit two times per year. You may think this is an unnecessary expense and just once should be sufficient. What you don't realize is that if you come to see us more frequently the better chances we have of preventing problems from happening. The other advantage is that if we notice a small problem like the start of a cavity, we can fix that and save you money and time.If we discover a problem that is medical rather than dental related, we can usually give you an idea of what could be causing the problem, and will then suggest you make an appointment to see your physician. If it is a symptom of something more, we can treat we will handle that as well. Do yourself a favor and call for an appointment. |
