Can Oral Problems Wait Until Your Next Regular Appointment?

Can Oral Problems Wait Until Your Next Regular Appointment?Taking good care of your health includes maintaining your oral health, as well. Most of us know that there are certain dental issues that require prompt intervention, but sometimes there are questions of what's considered urgent and what can wait.

Routine dental appointments with cleanings can typically wait every six months, but if you notice any of these problems, please give us a call right away.

Three Problems that Require Immediate Attention

While some concerns about your teeth may be able to wait until your next scheduled dental appointment, if you encounter any of these issues, do not hesitate to reach out to us. Catching it early could be all the difference in preserving not only your teeth, but also preventing dangerous health complications for you later on.

•  Bleeding: If you start to notice bleeding when you brush and floss your teeth, it may be gum disease, which is treatable if caught early. However, it may be a sign of something much worse, like oral cancer. Do not wait to call us if your mouth is bleeding!
•  Pain: All dental pain should be treated with urgency. It could mean that tooth decay has progressed into your pulp, you have broken a tooth, or you may have an abscess. Any of these could lead to loss of your tooth, so don't delay in calling our office.
•  Bad Breath: Contrary to popular belief, halitosis is not normal and should not be happening to you. It could be a clue that you may have an infection in your mouth, which could lead to worse problems down the road. Quick diagnosis and treatment can save your tooth and your health.

Routine cleanings can, of course, wait for six months. Even X-rays can typically occur every two or three years. However, any time you notice pain, bleeding, or bad breath (or a sour taste in your mouth), it's imperative that you call us right away. If you're suffering from any of these problems, call us today for an appointment and assessment for your oral health problems.
