If you're tired of your smile looking a little off, you might consider tooth whitening. There are many different products out there that whiten your teeth, but not all of them work the same way. Many of these products rely on bleach to remove stains. The problem is that some teeth simply don't respond to the bleach in the same way. This means you might finish your whitening product only to see that some of your teeth didn't whiten and now really stand out. Why Don't Some Teeth Whiten?Bleach works very well on some stains. It works the best on any stain that's yellow in color. This includes stains from drinking coffee, tea, and soda and some stains from smoking. If the stained tooth is more brown in color, though, it's possible the bleach won't work that well at all. Stained teeth that are more gray or purple often don't respond to the bleaching compound at all. If you have teeth that are a blue-gray color, there's also a chance that they won't bleach correctly. Those teeth will still look discolored after the treatment. What Other Options Are There? If you have teeth that won't whiten, you have a few options. You can come in for a professional whitening treatment. We do have access to more powerful forms of whitening that you can't buy over the counter. Sometimes, these stronger options will do the trick. If you've got some teeth that just refuse to whiten from bleach, there are some other things we can do. For example, we could install veneers over the front of your teeth. These thin attachments aren't replacement teeth, but they are cosmetic additions that make your smile look perfect. We may also be able to install crowns or replace missing teeth in order to help improve your smile. Give us a call today to talk about your options. |
