What Are Soft Teeth?

Posted on 8/20/2018 by Thomas Mahar
What Are Soft Teeth?Have you ever heard of the term "soft teeth"? Some people believe that they have "soft teeth", causing them to suffer from frequent cavities and visit the dentist more often than the norm.

While there are certainly some issues that can put your teeth at a higher risk for damage, the concept of "soft teeth" is actually a myth. Fortunately, there are things that you can do to protect them.

Why Are Some Teeth "Soft"?

While the term "soft teeth" isn't a recognized dental term, there are certainly some factors that can make some teeth weaker than others. Most likely, an unusual event disrupted the normal tooth development, some of which may include:

•  Dental decay.
•  Trauma.
•  Malnutrition.
•  Certain genetic conditions.
•  Hormonal imbalances.
•  Consumption of extremely high levels of fluoride.

Acid reflux or heartburn is also a common cause of soft teeth. When stomach acids flow into the mouth or esophagus, the enamel is exposed. This can lead to cavities, tooth decay, and damaged tooth enamel.

How Can You Prevent "Soft Teeth"?

So now that you know some of the causes of this problem, it is important to know how to protect your teeth. The biggest issue is bacteria exposure, as more exposure makes it harder to keep the teeth and mouth healthy. Fortunately, you can keep your teeth strong if you:

•  Visit the dentist regularly.
•  Follow a good dental hygiene routine, including daily flossing and twice daily brushing.
•  Learn proper technique for both brushing and flossing.
•  Select foods that are good for your oral health.

You don't have to live with teeth that are soft, damaged, and decayed. This doesn't have to be your future as long as you take control of your oral health today.
