While it seems pretty ridiculous, we know we aren't the only ones that have burnt our mouths with hot food in the past. Whether you're just really hungry and can't wait, or you bite into a piece of steaming hot food without ever realizing that it's hot, it's incredibly easy to burn the roof of your mouth while eating or drinking.

Once you do that you'll have to sit there in pain until the spot finally heals up, which will feel like it's taking an eternity. Fortunately, there are some steps you can take to minimize the pain that you feel after burning your mouth.

Lower the Temperature

As with most burns, one of the best things that you can do after burning your mouth is to bring the temperature of the location down as fast as possible. Take a swig of a cold drink, or suck on an ice cube after burning your mouth.

Doing so will help alleviate some of your pain, but more importantly lower the temperature of the burn site. This will help reduce the severity of the issue and will help you stay healthier in the future.

The Liquid Solution
Another simple solution is to combine some Benadryl along with dissolved Maalox inside the liquid. It will soothe the burned location and help numb it all at once. This can speed up recovery and help you feel better after a major burn.

Use an Anesthetic
Finally, you can stop suffering from the pain and finally put an anesthetic over top of the area. Head to the nearest drug store and get a topical medication for use within your mouth. It will help reduce your mouth pain and make you feel much better as well.

Nobody wants to suffer from mouth pain after an injury, but it's important to understand what you can do to alleviate the pain if you do end up burning your mouth accidentally. The advice up above is what we are most familiar with, but there are other methods that you can try out as well.
