![]() We only get one adult set of teeth in our lives so it's important that we take care of them. Good oral hygiene, regular office visits, that is what is recommended, but sometimes we forget to focus on what we eat and drink. Putting anything in your mouth can be potential to cause harm to your teeth. Let's talk about what juice can do to your smile.
The Bad News to Drinking JuiceWe have suggested to you at some point or another to stay away from sugary foods and drinks. However, there is a little more to it than that. It's best to get yourself familiar with nutrition labels. Juices can come with a high acid level, such as orange, grapefruit and lemon. Some juice has artificial sweeteners, and along with high acid can cause erosion of your tooth enamel causing tooth decay and cavities. You may think that you made a healthy choice in switching from soda to a juice, but it turns out it can be just as damaging to your teeth. The best thing to drink anytime is water. Water with fluoride can help restore your teeth. It's doesn't contain anything that can be harmful and it's zero calories, so you can have as much as you want without the guilt. The goal is to keep you and your smile at your best. Making sure you brush twice a day, floss every day and keeping up on regular visits is important to make sure nothing serious is going on. Making sure you know what you're eating and drinking can also be just as important as maintaining good oral hygiene. Next time you're in our office make sure you let us know about any changes to your diet. We like to hear about the positive changes you are trying to make to your overall health, but also want to make sure you're making good choices. If you have questions or concerns give our office a call. We will be happy to get you information on the positive changes you can make to help you to feel great inside and out. Keep smiling, you're on the right track. If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please call us at (315) 766-2770 today. |
