Can You Get Veneers With Missing Teeth?

Posted on 2/2/2024 by Weo Admin

How Do Dental Veneers Work?

Veneers were invented in the 1930s by Dr. Charles Pinchus to help mask dental flaws in Hollywood stars. These cosmetic coverings are usually made of porcelain or tooth-colored composite. Veneers attach to the front surfaces of teeth to camouflage dental flaws. Each veneer must be attached to a single healthy tooth, and thus, this dental option is not suitable for missing teeth. Veneers are also not an option for people with tooth cavities or gum disease because bacteria find these as suitable hideouts.

Best Dental Options for Missing Teeth

Here are three main options that people with missing teeth may consider. These include the following:

Dental Implants

Dental implants are replacement teeth that are fused with the jawbone. These artificial replacement teeth consist of a titanium post, a support strut, and a crown. The crown can be matched to a desirable color. The main advantage of implants is that they completely resolve oral health issues and last longer than any other available option.

Dental bridges

A dental bridge is simply an artificial tool that is held in place by the teeth on either side. Dental bridges are permanent since they cannot be easily removed. Some common types of dental bridges include traditional dental bridges, Maryland dental bridges, implant-supported bridges, and cantilever bridges. On average, a dental bridge lasts 5-10 years.

Dentures

Dentures are removable plastic, metallic, or resin teeth that are tightly attached to the gums to replace missing teeth. Technicians design these appliances to enhance aesthetics and functionality. They can be complete or partial, depending on the number of missing teeth. Dentures can also be removable or fixed, depending on preferences. This dental option is ideal when a large number of teeth are missing.

Closing Remarks

Dental veneers are not an option for people with missing teeth since they must attach to the front of a healthy tooth. People with missing teeth should consider implants, dental bridges, or dentures. Consult our qualified dentist for any of these procedures.
