Professional Dental Cleanings, Examinations, and X-Rays
When it comes to your long-term oral health, few things will help provide you with as much value as a professional dental cleaning and examination. At Mahar Dental, our goal is to add as much value as we possibly can to your overall oral health, and one of the ways we do this is by seeing you for a regular cleaning and examination once every six months. By seeing you on a regular basis, we can keep your mouth to a high standard of health and stay abreast of oral health issues as they arise.
Digital X-RaysOnce every year we will take a digital X-ray of your mouth so that we can keep track of changes in your mouth. We start your appointment off by taking a digital X-ray so that we can see between your teeth and through your gums to the structures that we wouldn’t otherwise be able to see. Digital X-rays are superior to traditional X-rays because they function in much the same way a digital camera does, which means we don’t have to wait 20 minutes for X-rays to develop, they are available for viewing right away. Digital X-rays also expose our patients to far less radiation than traditional X-rays. Conservative estimates of radiation exposure for digital X-rays put it at 20% of the radiation of a traditional X-rays output.
Professional Dental CleaningsYour dental cleaning is the next step to your visit with us. We will begin by removing the plaque and tartar that have built up in hard to reach areas of your mouth over the last six months. We have ultrasonic scalers that use ultrasonic vibrations and water to break up and wash away hardened tartar. We will floss and brush your teeth and end with a thorough tooth polish. By polishing your teeth, we remove stains and coloration issues and make them nice and smooth so that plaque has a hard time finding purchase on your teeth.
Professional Dental ExaminationsThe dental examination is the last part of the appointment. Dr. Mahar will check your mouth for signs of cavities and other oral maladies such as:
Our goal is to catch dental health issues when they are in their earliest of stages so that we can treat and eventually prevent them from becoming a serious issue. Take cavities for example: if we can detect areas on your teeth where the enamel is wearing thin, we can alert you to their presence, and you can pay careful attention to the area when you brush and floss. Many times this prevents a cavity from forming.
Great Oral Hygiene HabitsBrushing twice a day and flossing once a day plays the biggest role in keeping your mouth healthy for the rest of your life. It’s important to build good oral hygiene habits so that you can benefit from your natural teeth into your old age.
Please call us today at (315) 766-2770 to schedule your next appointment. We look forward to seeing you smile!
